Silversmiths
Design a trio of silver candle holders that exploit the interplay of light, shadow and reflection to create an abstract depiction and representation of the traditional English rose.
As Champagne Gosset continues it’s partnership with the Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards, now in its seventh year, they are pleased to offer another Gosset inspired challenge for creative designers.
Heritage & Context
Gosset is a boutique Champagne House, located in the historic heart of Champagne, in the town of Epernay in northern France. The company was founded in 1584 and is the oldest wine house in the champagne region. They remain family owned and employ handmade, traditional techniques to make their wines. Their success is founded history, heritage and a willingness to combine traditional knowledge whilst being receptive to adopt contemporary techniques where beneficial.
The Brief
Champagne Gosset invite you to design a trio of silver candle holders that exploit the interplay of light, shadow and reflection to create an abstract depiction and representation of the traditional English rose in a modern, innovative and attractive way. Individual interpretations to create unique proposals are encouraged.
When working on your design entry please take the following into account:
If the winning design meets expectations, the candle holders could be produced by Gosset, in a small-scale production run, presented in a giftbox with a bottle of Gosset Champagne. These should complement Gosset’s house style, which looks to clean lines and elegance, with wine in which freshness and fruitiness predominate.
These need to fit within and complement Gosset’s existing giftbox as illustrated. The space available is approximately 190mm W by x 90mm D by 330mm H, including protective packaging. Please consider how the holders will be positioned in the box for display and presentation.
The Gosset logo must be included on at least one of the products, visible on the front but it doesn’t necessarily need to be a major part of the design. (see below the 3 Gosset logos...)
Your entry should be presented at 1:1 scale and include measurements, material specification and brief description of the manufacturing techniques intended to produce your candleholders.
Because Gosset may wish to take the winning design into production in a range of metals, this should be considered during the design process.
An unmissable opportunity
The winner of the Champagne Gosset prize will receive an all-expenses paid, behind the scenes visit, to Champagne Gosset’s headquarters in France. You will be shown how Gosset champagnes are made in the vineyards, winery and cellars and finally in the bottle through a series of tastings and meals.
