Clumsy Chic: Style Born from Blunders
Life is full of small, awkward moments—tripping on the sidewalk, spilling your morning coffee, walking straight into a glass door. Instead of shying away from these clumsy moments, let’s celebrate them! This year we challenge entrants to turn life's everyday missteps into creative, stylish accessories that make us smile.
Your task is to design jewellery pieces that humorously capture these relatable moments of human error. We encourage you to think outside the box, play with form and function, and use materials that reflect the lighthearted nature of your concept.
The goal is to design a piece that brings joy, whether through clever symbolism, playful design, or an unexpected twist. We’re looking for entries that embrace humour and positivity—showing that even in our clumsiest moments, there’s beauty, creativity, and fun to be found.
Submit designs that not only spark a smile but also create a sense of connection through shared experience. After all, we’ve all been there!
Tips
You are encouraged to research in depth, think out-of-the-box & stretch your imagination (and ours!) to the bounds. Remember that the designs in this section do not need to be manufacturable or in any way realistic. Your design concept must be compelling and well presented.
It is important that entrants spend time on outlining their design concept using both the design board and the placeholders on the entry form.
We caught up with John Moore for the 2020/21 competition on his top tips on the 2020/21 2D Conceptual Jewellery brief "Designing for fictional characters".
