Repurpose Jewellery

The Everyday Elegance Challenge

The Vipa Designs Award returns for another year with the Repurpose Jewellery design brief. The re-working of heirloom treasures remains an important part of the jewellery industry, with clients seeking to up-cycle their treasured jewels into contemporary, wearable designs.

This year, entrants are invited to create an everyday piece of jewellery for a female client who is marking a significant milestone in her life. Recently, her three children have left home, and she is looking to recognise this new chapter with a piece of jewellery that reflects both her personal and professional passions.

Our client is an office professional with a deep passion for building restoration, specializing in the elegant art deco era. Outside of her work, she enjoys salsa dancing and yoga as a means of relaxation. She is seeking a versatile and stylish piece that she can wear daily, blending sophistication with a touch of her unique interests.

The client has a budget of £1,000 to make the piece, designs should incorporate the following materials and stones which are to be re-claimed from her current jewellery collection:

  • Up to 10 grams of 18ct Yellow Gold

  • Up to 5 grams of 18ct White Gold

  • A selection of available stones including:

    • 1 x Oval diamond – 7.5x5mm

    • 2 x Baguette cut diamonds – 4x2mm

    • 2 x Princess cut diamonds – 2mm

    • 10 x Round brilliant diamonds – Ranging 1.0-2.5mm

    • 10 x Gemstones: Ruby, Sapphire, or Alexandrite – Ranging 1.0-2.5mm

Additionally, the client has allocated an optional budget of £750 for any further materials or components to complement and enhance the design.

Designs should thoughtfully reflect the client’s professional and personal style, with an emphasis on elegance and functionality for everyday wear. An understanding of material use and cost considerations will be valued, showcasing a mindful approach to both design and manufacturing processes.

Please note that this is a fictional scenario.

An exciting opportunity...
