An English Art Works Bursary

Cartier & GC&DC in extended partnership

There is a growing and urgent need for industry to invest more in young and emerging talent to provide, contribute and ensure a continuity of skilled craftsmen and women in the UK. Along with their award for ultimate craftsmanship, Cartier, through its English Art Works workshop, are offering help and support to young and emerging talent from meaningful and career enhancing work experience in collaboration with the GC&DC.

The overall concept of this bursary is to support the next generation of industry craftsmen and women through immersive work experience at Cartier’s English Art Works workshop (EAW). The focus and spotlight will be on:

  • Students studying on a full or part time jewellery course (1yr minimum) who are showing potential for excellence in their field who don’t necessarily have access to trade partners or workshops.

  • Supporting the entrant/award winner with technical and practical experience by offering a placement within the English Art Works workshop for a minimum of a month, that can be extended at EAW’s discretion.

  • The bursary can be awarded to non-award-winning entrants showing potential and would benefit from this additional support.

  • The winner cannot be an apprentice, a trade affiliated entrant or employed by an industry business.

  • The recipient would be under 30yrs of age – hence the support for “young, emerging talent” who, through their 2D or 3D competition entry, demonstrate the potential to become a fine craftsperson.

  • The work experience with EAW would provide an invaluable insight, knowledge and understanding to the commercial industry that is hard to accrue without this form of internal/in house trade experience.

  • EAW’s could explore the possibility of turning a student’s 2D design into 3D as part of this experience.

  • Cartier/EAW’s will consider supporting the bursary in relation to the winner for their travel/accommodation expenses etc.

  • Strictly jewellery related entries selected/nominated from appropriate judging panels for a dedicated EAW judging panel to select a bursary winner

In summary, this is a unique and fantastic bursary for a student entrant/award winner in the competition, where Cartier, through its English Art Works workshop, are providing an invaluable and groundbreaking opportunity.

Subject to how the initial work experience period develops, EAW and Cartier may have to consider ceasing this offer.
